Embracing the morales and
principals of sustainability

Environment

Barnfield Construction has always embraced the principals of sustainability and has utilised many of its facets both at the design stage and on site.

Sustainability and Training

Barnfield Construction are committed to providing a high level of sustainability to all existing and future developments. This can be best demonstrated by viewing 2 of the construction industry key indicators, BREEAM and SBEM.

BREEAM
Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method
MORE ABOUT
BREEAM is the world's longest established method of assessing, rating, and certifying the sustainability of buildings, with increasingly higher requirements on new projects.
Our experience in BREEAM dates back to a number of Call Centres we built in Swansea, ultimately operated by the DVLA. These and many subsequent schemes have received a “very good” BREEAM rating.
SBEM
Simplified Building Energy Model
MORE ABOUT
Working closely with the designers and local council we carried out detailed and extensive investigations into the SBEM rating of the new ACE Centre, in Nelson Lancashire. The Part L2a (2006) have indicated that the CO2 emissions for this project are far better than the Target emission rate, the EPC rating of 41 again is better than benchmarks set out Energy Performance Certification documentation issued by HM Government and Carbon Trust.
SUDS
Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems
MORE ABOUT
Barnfield Construction has always embraced the principals of sustainability and has utilised many of its facets both at design stage and on site. The large number of projects we have used SUDS on can demonstrate this. We have implemented many differing principals of SUDS including Grey Water Harvesting, Swales, Porous Paving and Geo-Cellular Systems working closely with the Environment Agencies.

We have completed the following contracts involving SUDS

Barnfield Construction always looks to resource labour and its sub-contractors from the local area and is committed to the investment in training and development of its stakeholders.  We are currently working towards the Investor in People Standard.
