We are passionate about the future of construction and want future generations to have the best start possible in their contruction careers.  We have trained and nurtured at least 8 apprentices over the last few years, many of them now progressing their careers within the company.

Apprentices

James Lowe has settled in well at Barnfield over the last few years and is currently working under the very capable wing of Dave Graham at Northlight.  James (20) was an apprentice for 3 years, with 2 years spent working on the Leisure Box and now he’s a site joiner (carpenter) on the apartments at Northlight.  James said “It’s been a good learning experience – working on old and new.  It’s really interesting.  The mill is amazing!  We’ve seen what the old builders have done – their work was top notch in everything.  The structure of this mill was properly built.”

Welcome Jack

Welcome to our latest joinery apprentice Jack Scarborough who has been an apprentice joiner for just over a month!

Jack said:  “It’s good.  I’m learning how to put door casings in on the apartments at Northlight.   I like it.  I find it fascinating that this building hasn’t been torn down.  “You can do things with buildings like this rather than letting them go.”

David Graham is site manager of the iconic £32 million Northlight scheme in Brierfield and said:
“We don’t get our apprentices to sweep the floor and make the tea!
We offer proper apprenticeships.  We spend time teaching them the skills on the job and it’s great to see them grow in confidence.
It makes a big difference to have a site like Northlight as it takes years to transform a Victorian mill of this size.    Our apprentices start and finish their apprenticeships on this site and apprentices like James are kept on and have become valuable members of the team.”
