VALUE: £2.8 million

Duration: 32 weeks

Barnfield completed the design & build of the extension to the existing building which involved a 60,000 sq ft high bay warehouse and production unit that incorporated over 18 meters of structural racking.  The new extension houses two computer driven cranes which enables increased production whilst picking pallets to a pre programmed sequence.

The base to the high bay was an extremely involved civil engineering project incorporating over 130 tonne of reinforcements and over 3,500 cube of concrete.

Specialist sub contractor Demag were appointed to supply and erect the structural racking and the cranes. Demag imported foreign labour to erect the racking which meant integrating European H&S standards into the UK.  This had its own challenges but these were overcome to achieve a successful project.

The project also included the demolition & refurbishment of existing facilities including a new concrete storage yard area totalling 69,000 sq ft.
