The redevelopment of the former Colne Health Centre is now complete.  The new building was developed for PEARL, the pioneering joint venture development partnership between Barnfield Investment Properties and Pendle Borough Council.

The project comprised 3 high street retail units on the ground floor with space available between 1,000 sqft and 5,000 sqft, which are being marketed by agents Petty and Cheetham & Mortimer.

On floors 1 and 2 twelve apartments for the over 55’s were constructed for the Peter Birtwistle Trust.  The apartments benefit from mobility scooter charging points, a lift and two tranquil terrace areas.

Special care was taken during the construction phase to preserve the historic Community Grinder, which was used to grind corn around 1750.  This now forms part of the new courtyard outside the development.

It was important to the partnership that the new building was more sympathetic to its conservation area surroundings than the former health centre architecture.  The materials of the building will be more in keeping with its neighbouring Grade ll listed building and iconic pub next door, the Red Lion,  which also dates back to circa 1750.
