The Original Factory Shop Signs Barnfield to Expand HQ
Date: 24.02.2011
Lancashire firm, Barnfield Construction has signed an agreement with The Original Factory Shop to build a new 100,000 sq ft extension at its Head Office, based on the Orient Business Park in Burnley.
The design and build contract, due to be carried out over the next five months, will increase the low priced department store chain’s HQ by nearly double, to 250,000 sq ft. The Original Factory Shop sees this as an integral part of its business plan to sustain its rapid expansion plans over the next five years.
The Original Factory Shop is a national UK non-food convenience retailer, with over 160 stores operating in local markets and 2,600 employees. It provides its customers, often in rural locations, access to well known brands at great prices.
Its head office in Burnley controls all aspects and running of the stores and is home to a number of departments including Buying, Merchandising, Human Resources, Marketing, Distribution, Accounts and Property.
Tim Webber, Managing Director at Barnfield Construction Limited is particularly pleased to see the completion of the Deal.
He said: “We previously owned all of the land that the head office is situated on, having built the unit for Vita Achter some years previously, but sold a proportion 3 years ago to Alpinemoor Pension Fund. To complete the deal with The Original Factory Shop, Barnfield Construction reacquired 40,000 sq ft of warehousing and associated land at the site. We are delighted with the outcome of this agreement.”
Gareth Hutchinson, Financial Director of the Factory Shop says: “We are very pleased to be working with Barnfield Construction for this vital part of our expansion. We are committed to investing in the region and employing locally where we can. We look forward to working closely on the project over the coming months.”
The agreement was handled by James Horsley of the Yorkshire Property Company and Mark Bruce Lockhart of Phillips Lockhart, a real estate investment consultancy in London. Both of which have worked with The Original Factory Shop and Barnfield Construction for many years.
