Barnfield to be involved in Pendles Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge
Date: 25.10.2011
Residents from Pendle and beyond are encouraged to show their support for the site in Reedley that will become the Queen Elizabeth II playing field in 2012.
Between now and 14 November anyone can visit www.qe2fields.com to register their support.
It’s all part of the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, which has been timed to coincide with the Queen’s diamond jubilee next year and the 2012 Olympics.
Led by its Patron the Duke of Cambridge, the Fields Challenge is set to safeguard 2,012 outdoor recreational spaces across the country for future generations.
Earlier this year Pendle Council nominated the former Lucas sports ground in Reedley for the Fields Challenge.
Councillor Jonathan Eyre explained: “The facilities on the site of the former Lucas sports ground in Reedley will start to spring up towards the end of 2012. “It will be a brand new facility for the people of Pendle and we felt that it matched the requirements of the Queen Elizabeth II Field Challenge and what it aims to achieve.
“And the people at Fields in Trust, who are running the Challenge, agreed with us. This means this site will definitely become a Queen Elizabeth II playing field. “Now we want local residents, sports clubs and players to get behind it and show their support - it will take just a couple of clicks and less than a minute of your time!”
To show your support for the former Lucas sports ground becoming a Queen Elizabeth II playing field, go to www.qe2fields.com and enter the postcode BB10 2QZ.
Then click ‘support’ and your support will be registered - it’s as easy as that! When the work is complete on the former Lucas sports ground, there will be a cricket oval, football pitch and clubhouse.
Developer Ribble Developments (A joint venture between Barnfield Construction and H Rigg Properties) are owners of the site and Barnfield Construction are currently laying the infrastructure for the new housing development of around 80 houses on the same site.
The sports fields and clubhouse are being funded by them through a Section 106 agreement, and will be handed over to Pendle Council upon completion.
By designating the new site as a Queen Elizabeth II playing field, it means it will be protected forever and will stage important sporting events for future generations.
The protected fields, which will become known as Queen Elizabeth II playing fields, are a 21st century version of the King George V Memorial Fields programme.
