What a view from Quaker Heights
Date: 24.08.2011
Progress on transforming the derelict Lob Lane Mill into stunning state-of-the-art houses is set to be unveiled.
PEARL2, a joint venture partnership between Pendle Council and Barnfield Investment Properties, is delighted to open the doors of its first finished home.
It’s a four storey, four bedroomed town house in part of the former mill and is one of the most exciting residential opportunities in the area for years.
Barnfield Homes, the Barnfield Group’s residential arm, is putting the finishing touches on the show home so people can see what the new homes look like once they’re complete. And everyone is invited to see the spectacular new development themselves!
Anyone interested in buying one of the homes at Quaker Heights can visit the show home between 12 noon and 4pm each Saturday and Sunday from Saturday September 3.
Barnfield Construction, which is carrying out the construction work in partnership with PEARL2, has kept the main mill warehouse and engine house as part of Pendle’s mill heritage.
They’re now converting these into 12 four bedroom town houses. Other buildings on the site have been demolished and work is well underway on 14 two and three storey houses – part of the first phase of new housing.
The first homes at the historic Lob Lane Mill will be going up for sale by the end of August, just over 18 months after councillors gave the conversion the go ahead.
Councillor Mike Blomeley, Leader of Pendle Council and a Councillor for the Brierfield and Reedley area, said: “The former mill, now known as Quaker Heights, is undergoing a stunning transformation! “It’s being sympathetically converted so it retains many of its industrial architectural features that the local area is renowned for. “I'm delighted with the result of the refurbishment work on the mill block. “These spacious family homes will have fantastic views towards Pendle Hill - I think they’ll be a popular choice with people wanting to make a move!”
“It’s fantastic to see that our plans to create new homes at the Mill, which has lain derelict for many years, are finally coming to fruition,” said Councillor Tony Beckett, our leader for Housing Regeneration. “If you’re interested in what’s on offer come along on Saturday September 3 - it’s a great opportunity to see this amazing transformation.”
Brian Cookson, Pendle’s Regeneration Director, added: “Despite the economic climate, our established joint venture company with Barnfield has successfully pulled off a pearl of a housing scheme of national significance. “It’s been funded through money from the end of the government’s housing market renewal programme, Barnfield Investment Properties and Pendle Council. “And I’m thrilled that we’ll be able to throw open the doors to our first completed house so that people can see the high specification of these properties.”
Councillor Blomeley added: “I’ve been an enthusiastic supporter of both the need to make progress in Brierfield and of our joint venture company, PEARL2. “And I’m pleased to see that we’re now delivering real progress in Brierfield!”
Tim Webber, Chairman and Managing Director of the Barnfield Group, said: “As a Pendle company we’re extremely passionate about Lob Lane Mill. “It’s not every day you get the chance to convert a fantastic landmark like this historic mill which looks out on some of the best views in the country. “These extremely spacious homes are close to Pendle’s beautiful open countryside and lovely villages, such as nearby Fence and Barrowford, but also within easy reach of Manchester Liverpool and Leeds.”
