NSG Group signs Barnfield Construction to build new Pilkington Glass production facility in St Helens
Lancashire firm, Barnfield Construction is delighted to have been selected as preferred contractor for the new coated glass production facility based on the Cowley Hill site in St Helens.
The £4.9 million design and build contract, due to be completed in April 2012, will provide a 150,000 sq ft facility for the production of energy-efficient Pilkington K Glass™.
The 280 metre-long building will also provide 10,000 sq ft new offices.
The establishment of the £36M coating line was announced by the NSG Group in April of this year.
Subject to final approval, it will be supported by a £5 million award from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund.
The NSG Group, which acquired Pilkington in 2006, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of glass and glazing products for the building, automotive and speciality glass sectors.
The Group has operations in 30 countries worldwide and employs around 3,000 people across the UK, in activities ranging from the manufacture of float, rolled and wired glass to glass processing and merchanting, automotive original equipment (OE) and automotive glass replacement (AGR) manufacture.
