Metflex Relocate to Their Purpose Built Highly Energy Efficient Building
Date: 24.08.2010
East Lancashire based Metflex Precision Mouldings Limited have today completed the move into their state-of-the-art custom made premises, less than half a mile down the road!
Metflex have operated from their former premises 1944, after being bombed out of their London premises during the war., The Company is a precision rubber moulding company who specialize in the gas regulator and metering industry, drive couplings, oil and HI FI sectors..
The building will be one of the most highly energy efficient buildings in the area generating a low carbon footprint, as Metflex produce heat as a bi-product within the factory and as a result don’t require a heating system.
The Company, who were previously based on Queen Street in Great Harwood, bought an option to buy the land 6 years ago through the owners, Barnfield Construction Limited and decided to exercise this option when they sold their existing premises to Tesco.
The new 37,000 sq ft factory based on Heys Lane Industrial Estate in Great Harwood follows on from the same design used on Barnfield Construction Limited’s speculative industrial development which is located on land next to the new Metflex premises.
John Holland, Managing Director at Metflex commented “The move to new purpose built premises is a fantastic opportunity for the next phase in Metflex’s history. While it is sad to leave the old site after so many years the buildings were getting old and did not facilitate modern manufacturing techniques. The new building is purpose built bringing all manufacturing under one roof and will be much more energy efficient therefore reducing the companies carbon footprint. Barnfield who have been working to a very tight schedule have done a fantastic job in completing the building within the allotted timescales. “
Deputy Leader, Cllr Peter Clarke said “I'm delighted that Metflex are to remain in Great Harwood, keeping over 70 jobs in Great Harwood. After helping to facilitate this relocation, the project is a prime example of partnership working by the Council and the Private Sector.“
Extensive variations have been made to the building by the client, but Contractors Barnfield Construction have still managed to complete the design and build contract on time due to the implications of Metflex selling their building to Tesco and needing to vacate the premises as agreed.
Tim Webber, Managing Director of Barnfield Construction and Director of Barnfield & Hyndburn Limited commented “We have played a large part in developing out Heys Lane Industrial Estate with some buildings still held within our property portfolio and it is very satisfying to see that a prestigious company like Metflex has been able to complete the final piece of the jigsaw on the Estate.”
