Barnfield's Magnificent Nine

A specialist team of Barnfield Construction employees have proved themselves to be top-class after finishing two years studying in their own time to develop their careers.

Seven employees from Barnfield Construction have now successfully completed their CIOB Certificate in Site Supervisory Studies at Burnley College’s Princess Way campus.

Paul Dooling, Nigel Hill, Gary Conway, Paul Davis, Russell Currie, Paul Anderson SNR and Paul Anderson JNR have spent one evening a week for the last two years gaining the knowledge needed to become skilled site supervisors. The course consisted of six modules: Planning Building Operations, Organising and Controlling Operations, Supervising Safety at the Workplace, Maintaining Lines and Levels, Working with People and Developing Personal Skills.

Mark Summerfield, Curriculum Manager at Burnley College, said:

“These seven students from Barnfield Construction have worked tremendously hard in the last two years. They have shown real dedication and determination to work through the ranks having started as craft operatives or labourers to now being recognised as qualified construction site supervisors with a wide range of transferable skills who are supervising construction sites to a very high standard “

In addition to the magnificent seven, Marketing & PR Manager Charlotte Rice and Site Manager Dave Ragan have also proved themselves to be the ‘cream of the crop’ in their quest to endorse their professions.

Dave, who started work as a joiner at Barnfield over seven years ago before progressing to a site manager, has gained a Merit in his HNC in Construction and studied for two years at Accrington and Rossendale College and Blackburn College.

Charlotte, who has worked for Barnfield for the past two and a half years has completed her CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing at Blackburn University Centre gaining 3 As and a B and is looking forward to her Graduation Ceremony at Symphony Hall in Birmingham next month.
