Barnfield Construction’s newly qualified Surveyor, Jonathan Nixon, is celebrating after receiving a BSc Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying.

Jonathan has always been keen to develop a career in construction and in July 2006 he started his working life as a trainee quantity surveyor at Barnfield’s head office in Nelson.

Jonathan previously attended Fisher More High School and after taking advice from family and friends he decided to pursue the option of an apprenticeship.

After securing his position at Barnfield Jonathan started college in September 2006 and studied for a HNC in Construction and Property Management for two years. He then used this qualification to fast track onto the degree course at the University of Salford.

Barnfield have fully supported Jonathan both financially and academically in order to complete all of his chosen courses and he is now looking forward to repaying Barnfield with his knowledge and experience.

Jonathan commented “In my view the best way to prepare for working life is to earn while you learn. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed gaining my degree through the day release scheme and as an extra bonus I have left University at 23 years old debt free!

I’m extremely grateful to Barnfield for the time and money they have invested in me and I feel proud to work with fantastic mentors in such a well-respected, local company who pride themselves on investing in their staff”

Barnfield Construction also have working partnerships with Constructing the Future and Burnley College for all their apprenticeship and training requirements.
