Artwork Marks End of an Era

Date: 19.07.2010

A giant steel newt has today been unveiled on the cycleway which was formerly the old railway embankment in Accrington.

The artwork unveiling marks the completion of five years of work to develop the former Platts Lodge site by Globe Enterprises.  Work began with the removal of the old railway embankment and continued with the construction of offices, training centres and 55 apartments in the stunning Waterside development.

The environment around the lodge has also been improved and is now home to lots of wildlife and is popular with a local fishing club.

Children from Woodnook Primary School were involved with Lancashire Wildlife Trust with a study of the history and ecology of the lodge and also came up with ideas for the artwork design seen today.

A spokesperson for Globe Enterprises said, “We are extremely proud of the regeneration work we have carried out to this area of Accrington.  We feel the new artwork completes the waterside development and we hope all who pass by will enjoy it”
